I’ve started to create my cover for Taming the Twisted (see photo below). At first I had the river picture I took as the entire background but I decided that was too busy so I cropped it and put it on the bottom half. I also wanted to add some color but not too much so I put a dark blue stripe across the top. I used a semi-transparent white fill in the text boxes so (hopefully) the words can be read easily.
Here are the comments I received with some examples of making the suggested changes:
1. Split up the copy on the back to create more white space. Take off “by” in the author line and fix a typo. And from my son, take off the white background for the title, make it a white font, and “a novel” grey:
2. Try Olive Green instead of dark blue:
